From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Fresno State University student will serve six years in prison for strangling his roommate. Geng Tong (John) Jang was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Gene Gomes. Jang earlier pleaded guilty to murdering Kuei-Chen Su, 23, but said it was in self-defense. Su had arrived in Fresno from Taiwan to attend college only weeks before she was killed. Her partially clad body was found in March in a shallow grave northeast of Clovis. Jang first told police that she mysteriously disappeared, but later confessed that he accidentally choked her after she lunged at him with a knife.
