Norwalk : Construction of Freeway Sound Walls to Begin Soon
Construction of sound walls along Interstate 5 in Norwalk is expected to begin within the next three months. The City Council has approved an agreement with Caltrans for the city to oversee the project.
The city will administer the $924,000 construction contract to build sound walls along the Santa Ana Freeway from Kalnor Avenue to Imperial Highway and from the Southern Pacific railroad tracks to Lakeland Road.
Caltrans is funding the construction costs, as well as paying Norwalk $130,000 to administer the contract, which includes hiring the contractor.
Officials estimate that the walls will take six to nine months to build once construction begins.
