GARDEN GROVE : 5 in Running for 3 School Board Seats
Five people, including three incumbents, have declared their candidacy for openings on the Garden Grove School District board, according to the registrar of voters.
Three of the five board seats will be open in November, district spokesman Alan Trudell said. All the seats carry four-year terms.
Candidates include businessman Terry A. Horwitz, 45; engineer Watson Lewis Warren, 43; and these incumbents: retired teacher Joyce T. Johnson, 73; attorney Kenneth Slimmer, 61; and secretary Lynn Hamtil, 52. The election will be Nov. 5.
The board is responsible for adopting district policy and the annual budget and approving the curriculum. The Garden Grove Unified School District covers most of Garden Grove and portions of Santa Ana, Westminster, Fountain Valley, Stanton, Cypress and Anaheim.
