Kimberly Po of Rolling Hills advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 second-round victory over Anne Smith on Thursday at New York.

Po is ranked 180th in the Virginia Slims rankings and Smith is 53rd. Po, 19, will meet Natalia Zevereva of the Soviet Union in a match expected to be played Saturday. Zevereva advanced by upsetting 16th-seeded Anke Huber, 6-2, 6-4.

Po helped lead UCLA to the NCAA final in May. She was the only Bruin winner as Stanford beat UCLA for the title, 5-1.
