Passenger Is Killed When Vehicle Tumbles

A 38-year-old El Cajon man died when the vehicle in which he was riding rolled down a 150-foot embankment in Pine Valley, authorities said Friday.

William Sargent was dead at the scene at 8:08 p.m. Thursday, said John Armendariz, an investigator for the county medical examiner’s office.

About 6:15 p.m. the vehicle slipped off a dirt trail while going around a large boulder near Pine Creek Road, about 5 miles north of Old Highway 80, California Highway Patrol Officer Gary Brown said.

Sargent suffered massive head injuries, but the driver and other two passengers suffered only moderate injuries and were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, authorities said.
