Jet Noise Around El Toro Air Station

Share

Re: the two letters (Aug. 25) from people complaining about the noise from the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station: These people have forgotten that in an imperfect world, the price of freedom is constant vigilance and preparedness.

The air station was here many years before there was a community of Laguna Hills, the source of the letters. When we moved to this area in 1977, we knew the base was there, and we have found the Marines to be good neighbors.

Except for the few nights each year that they hold night carrier landing practice, they don’t fly during the normal sleeping hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. We are much happier having the Marines here than we would be with any of the other possible uses of the facility.

People who move near a jet airport and complain about the noise exhibit the same mentality as those who move next to a dairy and complain about the flies and the smell.
