CORPORATE RESCUE: Rain, not drought, was on the minds of Performing Arts Center leaders gearing up for the gala launch on Sept. 29, 1986. . . . Seems rain had puckered the Astro Turf paving the floor of party tents. “The Irvine Co. came in, lifted the turf and laid plywood beneath,” recalls party chairwoman Floss Schumacher. “They saved the day.”
