Countywide : Key Jamboree Link Will Open Monday

Share

Jamboree Road’s missing link is scheduled to open Monday morning, giving commuters a straight 15-mile shot from Balboa Island in Newport Beach to the east end of Orange.

“For everyone who has to get from the north side of the county to the south side, this will be a very attractive route to them, a very quick route,” said Arya Rohani, Irvine’s transportation services manager.

The 1 1/2-mile extension of Jamboree Road through Tustin Marine Corps Air Station will also help relieve congestion on parallel streets in Irvine and Tustin, Rohani said.

The $26-million road project includes overpasses above Warner Avenue and Moffett Drive to speed traffic along without stopping. There will also be freeway-style ramps connecting Jamboree to Warner. Speed limits along the stretch will probably be 50 to 55 miles per hour, Rohani said.

The project was paid for by Irvine, Tustin and the Irvine Co. The firm was required to participate in exchange for earlier approval to build the Westpark housing project, Rohani said.

Officials will hold a ribbon-cutting for Jamboree’s final stretch Saturday morning, but the road will remain closed until Monday.
