PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Robinson Looks Forward to Giants

Share

Ram Coach John Robinson was bubbly Thursday in anticipation of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants at the Meadowlands. Robinson is 5-3 against the Giants in combined regular-season and playoff action. When he has played the Giants at the Meadowlands, Robinson is 3-1.

“We’ve played the Giants a lot in my time,” Robinson said. “I’ve always enjoyed it. Enjoyed the competition, enjoyed (recently retired Giant coach) Bill Parcells. We’ve got a lot of good memories. My first game (and first victory) as coach was against the Giants.

“I like playing them in that stadium, in that city. It’s the bigs. And it’s classy. They’re a classy group. It brings out, I think, the best in people. Some places you go, there’s negative stuff, negative things. Not there.”

The Rams’ trade of offensive lineman Irv Pankey became official when Pankey passed the Indianapolis Colts’ physical examination and signed a three-year contract with the team. The Rams received the Colts’ third- and 11th-round draft choices in 1992. . . . Robinson took what could be read as a subtle jab at fumble-prone tailback Cleveland Gary, suggesting that perhaps Gary hasn’t come back to the practice field quickly enough from his recent hamstring and rib injuries. “He has not had many opportunities to practice,” Robinson said after being asked a question that did not involve Gary. “Now whether he has been diligent enough about overcoming the injury or not, I don’t have a comment.”
