Professional tennis players and musicians plan to make some racket in the seventh Music & Tennis Festival at Warner Center Club on Sept. 12-15.

Eddie Money and M.C. Hammer will be among 30 musicians who are scheduled to appear. Members of bands such as The Doobie Brothers, Kansas, The Knack, Pablo Cruise and The Who also are scheduled to appear.

Musicians are paired with 30 professional tennis players in a weekend competition that includes a live concert Saturday. The final of the celebrity tournament will be held Saturday, and an exhibition between a pair of professional tennis players will be held Sunday. Last year’s exhibition match pitted 1990 U.S. Open champion Pete Sampras against Brad Gilbert.

Gilbert, Roscoe Tanner, V.J. Amritraj, Mats Wilander and Pepperdine Coach Eliot Teltscher are scheduled to compete.

Grand Prix results: Several area players won titles in a San Fernando Valley Grand Prix tournament that concluded Monday at Cal State Northridge.

The tournament, which included 250 entrants, was the fourth in a yearlong series of six.

In men’s singles, champions included Antelope Valley’s Diego Weinsetell (open), Encino’s Alan Belgard (B+), Northridge’s Evan Unruh (B), Granada Hills’ Mike Schlesinger (C) and Woodland Hills’ Vincent Chang (D). Granada Hills’ Keith Brydon won the boys’ 14 singles title.

In women’s singles, winners included Woodland Hills’ Susan Cole (A), and Leah Imamura (B) and Lillian Ore (C), both of Chatsworth.

Men’s doubles champions included Encino’s Dana and Barry Wierman (A) and Sylmar’s Jack Downer and Steve Tscherne (B).

Studio City’s Sylvia Trujillo and Marylin Nakamine won the women’s B doubles title. In mixed doubles, Sunland’s Hal and Lianne Zajaiz won the A division.

Grand Prix standings: Thirteen local players are among the leaders in the San Fernando Valley Grand Prix standings. Two tournaments remain on the six-tournament schedule.

In men’s open singles, Weinsetell is in a first-place tie with Northridge’s Steve Yu. Other men’s singles leaders include Encino’s Jonathon Lane (A), Northridge’s Seth Jacobs (B+), Granada Hills’ Jason Butts (B) and Tarzana’s Phil Meltzer (C).

In women’s singles, leaders include Cole (A), Imamura (B) and Ore (C).

Men’s doubles leaders include Chatsworth’s Joey Tomasello and Skip Redman (A) and Simi Valley’s Paul Guay and Gary Roberts (B).

Trujillo and Nakamine lead the women’s B doubles division and Northridge’s James Oh holds first place in the boys’ 14 division.

Grand Prix No. 5: The fifth Grand Prix will be held Oct. 5-6 and Oct. 12 at Cal State Northridge. Each tournament is open to the public. The Grand Prix circuit, which began in April, will conclude in December. The top 14 players in each division will play in a masters tournament, and the champions in each division will advance to a regional tournament.

Westlake tournament: Thousand Oaks’ Tom Spraggins and Bob Szejn are seeded first in the men’s A doubles in the 10th Westlake Tennis & Swim Club Grand Prix doubles tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Camarillo’s Rick Johnson and Doug Rosecrans are the No. 1-seeded team in men’s B doubles. Christy Slover and Pam Franz of Camarillo are seeded first in women’s B doubles.

LATPA program: The Los Angeles Tennis Players Assn. offers local players one of the area’s most competitive programs.

LATPA, based in Encino, sponsors teams in the United States Tennis Assn.’s men’s and women’s adult leagues. It also sponsors teams that compete in the USTA men’s, women’s and mixed doubles leagues and challenges local area tennis clubs to matches throughout the year.

USTA fall league: The United States Tennis Assn. men’s and women’s fall team doubles league will get under way later this month. USTA officials will meet Sunday to determine the starting date for San Fernando Valley teams and will meet Wednesday to determine the starting date for Ventura County teams. Play will continue through November. Players of all levels are eligible.

Add leagues: Registration is being held for the Los Angeles Winter League, which includes men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events.

Fall Doubles Classic: The LATPA will play host to the Greater Los Angeles Fall Doubles Classic at Calabasas Park Tennis Club on Sept. 20-22. The event will include men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles at all levels. Entry deadline is Thursday.

Charity tournament: The City of Hope charity mixed doubles tournament will be held Nov. 9 at The Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Senior sectionals: The first USTA Senior sectional championships will be held Sept. 28-29 at UCLA. Men and women aged 50 years and older will compete in 4.5, 4.0 and 3.5 divisions, and winners will advance to the national championships.
