S cat like that. Come on, scat like that ... Scoot, do’n do-whop. Boogity, boogity, shoo.

From scat play to “Simon Says,” the upbeat “Greg & Steve Live! In Concert” video is jam-packed with musical activities for the energetic young and young at heart.

Greg Scelsa and Steve Millang, a couple of laid-back uncle-types, bring a smooth pop-rock style to original tunes--Scelsa wrote most of them. The songs are pleasant, well-executed and unabashedly derivative. Some are about friendship (“Friends”), differences (“The World Is a Rainbow”) or the alphabet (“ABC Rock”).

But the main theme is the pleasure to be found in moving to a beat.

In “Medley of Hits,” kids are invited to tiptoe, do the twist, walk like an elephant and a duck and become a floppy scarecrow. They follow along in “Shadow Dancing”--”Just watch me closely and be my shadow. Can you move your body just like me?”--as some audience volunteers guide their peers.

“Hand Jive” is an appealing clapping game where kids are challenged to copy Steve’s clapping rhythms. In “The Freeze,” kids bop and rock as they please, then freeze in place whenever the music stops, trying not to twitch a muscle. It’s a terrific way to share a giggle with your kids.

“Greg & Steve Live! In Concert.” Youngheart Video. 50 minutes. $19.95. Available at video and record stores.

Just for Kids: For kid-sized music videos, “Joe’s First Video,” an eccentric mix of animation styles and the silly songs of children’s singer Joe Scruggs, is a parent-friendly option.

Scruggs’ mellow, folk-influenced tunes deal with the day-to-day concerns of his audience. A boy’s fears of what lurks “Under Your Bed” at night, are dispelled by brave Mom with her flashlight; monsters turn out to be socks, underwear and an old teddy bear.

In “Skateboard,” Mom makes use of an unexpected gift in an innovative way, while “‘By the Way” will ring a bell with any parent who learns 10 minutes before time to leave for school that Junior needs assorted objects for class that day:

Dear Mom, oh, by the way, I need an orange juice can, four cotton balls, and six rubber bands . . . .

He’s also got to be an angel in the school play and needs some wings. Mom comes through, and it’s not quite what Junior expects--he winds up wearing butterfly wings from his sister’s old costume.

The cartoons are varied enough in style to maintain visual interest and the unhurried pace is as comfortable as Scruggs’ style.
