BRAIN DRAIN? Calling his UC Irvine equipment outdated, brain researcher Monte S. Buchsbaum is threatening to take his $1 million a year in grants to the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. The founder of UCI’s Brain Imaging Center wants a $1.4-million computer and scanner to study brain structures that may cause schizophrenia. UCI dean Walt Henry says he is committed to getting the equipment. Yet state budget cuts could mean “they may offer him a lot more than we can,” Henry says.
