The Rev. Jesse Jackson is playing host to supporters at a weekend meeting to discuss whether he should enter the 1992 presidential race, but some loyalists say Jackson already has decided not to run.

The two-time Democratic candidate has an offer to be host of a public affairs program on Cable News Network and is widely expected to formalize the deal before the end of the month.

Jackson spokesman Frank Watkins said Sunday’s political gathering will include “people who were supportive of the Rev. Jackson in 1984 and 1988.”

He said Jackson has not made up his mind about 1992. But two Jackson advisers, speaking privately, disputed that.

“I don’t think the meeting amounts to anything more than stretching out the suspense a bit more,” said one of the advisers, a longtime Jackson supporter. “He’s not running.”

“Every indication I have is that he’s going to do the show” on CNN, the second adviser said.
