COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Ex-Bruin Bret Johnson Will Start
Junior Bret Johnson, a transfer who started for UCLA in 1989, will start for 18th-ranked Michigan State against Central Michigan on Saturday, Coach George Perles said.
A judge in Missoula, Mont., ordered that Montana offensive tackle Steve Premock, who had been declared ineligible by the NCAA for alleged steroid use, be allowed to play. Citing “substantial questions” about the NCAA’s drug-testing procedures, Judge Douglas Harkin issued his injunction after a two-day hearing.
Louisville wide receiver Rhonyia Quick was freed on $1,000 bond after being charged with drunken driving in Nashville, Tenn., authorities said.
A passenger in Quick’s car, former Louisville running back Adrian Green, was charged with public intoxication. Ron Steiner, a team spokesman, said Green quit the team in August.
