Former Lawmaker, Wife to Begin 2nd Wedtech Trial

Former U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia and his wife, Jane, are scheduled to go on trial today for a second time on charges that they allegedly tried to extort payoffs from the now-defunct Wedtech Corp. They were found guilty in 1989 for their role in the Wedtech scandal and sentenced to three years in prison, but an appeals court reversed their convictions on technical grounds and sent the case back for a new trial.
