Avon to Take $75-Million Charge: Avon Products Inc. said it would take the charge in the third quarter to remove debt from its balance sheets. The beauty products company said the charge, to amount to $1.04 per share, is primarily to write down various notes and other securities received when Avon sold various health-care and other businesses in 1987 and 1988.
