La Puente : Mayor May Lose Power
The City Council on Tuesday agreed to consider stripping the mayor of the exclusive right to nominate candidates to vacancies on the Planning Commission.
In a 3-2 vote, the council directed city staff to draw up a measure that would give all council members the right to nominate candidates to the five-member panel.
Mayor Charles H. Storing and Councilman Manuel Garcia opposed the action.
Councilman Joe V. Alderete initiated the move after Storing refused to nominate one of the three applicants for a commission vacancy. Storing attempted to appoint the other two, but the council refused to confirm them.
