VENTURA : Chamber Endorses 3 for City Council

The Ventura Chamber of Commerce endorsed three pro-business candidates for City Council on Thursday, taking a direct role in city politics for the first time.
The chamber endorsed labor attorney Tom Buford, personnel consultant Jack Tingstrom and Mound Garden Center owner Greg Carson.
Mel Sheeler, president of the chamber’s political action committee, said the chamber chose to back the three men because they “are dedicated to the promotion and preservation of a healthy economic climate, believe in the free enterprise system, have demonstrated fiscal responsibility and will provide balance to the City Council.”
Chamber officials said they joined the political fray this year because the current slow-growth balance of the City Council is hurting business.
Last week, Buford, Carson and Tingstrom also won the endorsement of a newly formed political action committee called Venturans for Responsible Government, one of several groups expected to back candidates this year.
