Pomona : Waste Haulers Considered
The City Council will hear proposals next month from three waste disposal companies interested in building a facility that would receive up to 3,000 tons of trash a day, remove recyclable materials and ship the rest to a dump.
Public Works Director Robert DeLoach said the city solicited proposals from seven waste disposal companies and received five responses that were reviewed by a screening committee.
The committee has recommended three proposals for consideration by the council. DeLoach said the council will select one, then begin negotiations on a contract spelling out financial terms and other details.
The city initiated the project to meet state recycling requirements and also provide income from fees levied on trash disposal. The proposed facility would serve Pomona and several neighboring cities.
The council will consider proposals by Duran Environmental Inc., a Pomona commercial waste hauler; Taormina Industries Inc. of Anaheim, which runs a recycling center in Stanton, and Rail Cycle, a joint venture by Waste Management Inc. and the Santa Fe Railway.
