Water District Board to Weigh Rate Increases

COSTA MESA — The Mesa Consolidated Water District board will hold public hearings today and Tuesday to consider rate increases.
The board will consider an option to increase the per-unit charge from $1.05 to $1.10, which would raise the average bimonthly residential water bill to $42.20. The current average water bill for 16 units every two months is $40.16, according to water district spokeswoman Mary Urashima.
Another option is increasing the basic charge from $7 to $8. In that case, board members may also consider raising the unit cost from $1.05 to $1.08, Urashima said. The second scenario would increase the average water bill to $42.60.
Today’s session will include a workshop with a public comment period. Tuesday’s session will also include a chance for customers to comment on the proposals, Urashima said. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the district board room, 1965 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa.
