Butler Calls Dodger Fans the Best, but Says They’re Spoiled by Success

Several Dodgers acknowledged Sunday that they will not have the same home-field advantage during next weekend’s three-game showdown at Dodger Stadium as the Braves enjoyed this weekend.

The Braves were given standing ovations after nearly every good play, and every pressure situation was greeted by the ominous “tomahawk chop,” during which the fans pointed at the Dodgers while chanting.

“I love our fans. They are the best in baseball, but it’s just a fact that they are different. They are more spoiled,” Brett Butler said, emphasizing that he wasn’t being critical, just explaining the difference. “It’s like, they’ve won so much, it’s not that big of a deal. They get to the park in the second inning, they leave in the seventh. . . . They don’t act like the fans in Atlanta.

Butler added: “The fans in Atlanta, because they have never seen anything like this before, are unbelievable. They are awesome. They really charge everything up. This may give the Braves a little more of an edge then we get at home.”

Said Bob Ojeda: “Early in the season, me and (Darryl) Strawberry and Dave Righetti up in San Francisco would always talk about how something is missing in Los Angeles, something different from New York.

“We have great fans, but playing in Atlanta this week really made me realize what kind of excitement you can have. I’ve loved it this weekend. You can just feel the energy here. It’s a lot different than in Los Angeles.”
