Car Hits Tree; 2 Killed

A San Diego couple were killed when their car struck a palm tree on 6th Avenue Monday afternoon.
The driver, Joaquin Eduardo Alvarado, 69, a retired building inspector, died at Mercy Hospital at 2:55 p.m. His wife, Lois Ann Alvarado, 62, an office manager for Prudential Insurance Co., died at the scene.
Police said the driver may have had a heart attack as the car reached the 3100 block of 6th Avenue, swerved over the sidewalk and into the tree.
