PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Shotgun May Not Be the Answer

During training camp, the Rams hinted that they might add the shotgun formation this season. Their injury-riddled offensive line has provided quarterback Jim Everett precious little time to pass, so why not unveil it now?

Coach John Robinson says there are two reasons not to. First, he is worried about any added burden on guard-turned-center Tom Newberry, who sat out most of training camp and is still learning the position. And second, he doesn’t want to complicate matters for his already struggling offense.

“That’s a suggestion of expansion and I’m suggesting more efficiency,” he said.

“It’s something we’ve talked about. We may in fact do some of that at some point, but I think the immediate answer is to get the parts that are there functioning.”
