Glendale : Teachers Reject Benefits Cuts
Glendale Community College teachers told trustees Monday that they will not accept cuts in health benefits.
“We’re willing to accept no raise, but we are unwilling to take a cut in health-care commitments,” said Lynn McMurrey, president of the college guild that represents 260 full-time instructors.
McMurrey also urged the trustees to increase the hourly wage of part-time employees.
The guild is renegotiating its recently expired contract with college officials. While college instructors are struggling to maintain their current health benefits, dwindling state funds have already forced an agreement on a salary freeze, the first in three years, McMurrey said.
