Crane Operator Dies in Grading Accident
A 54-year-old construction worker was killed in Calabasas when the crane he was driving rolled over and crushed him, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
Gilbert Sanchez of Palmdale was pronounced dead at the scene Friday, said Deputy Mary Landreth, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
Sanchez was grading a hillside at the Las Virgenes Reclamation Center, 731 Malibu Canyon Road, when the incident occurred.
“He lost control of the crane and it went over an embankment,” Landreth said. The man jumped out of the crane and was run over.
Sanchez was employed by the San Diego-based Wagner Construction Co.
