Whittier : Builder Must Lower Lawn at Condo Construction Site

Share

A developer will have to lower the lawn at the future site of a condominium complex near Whittier before continuing construction, a county official said. Workers have piled the soil too high on the property, said Carrie Sutkin, planning deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina.

The Whittier Homes development, a planned 42-unit project, is located on a former railroad right of way, south of Whittier Boulevard on unincorporated county land. About 40 residents of the neighborhood had complained that the lawn was three to five feet higher than their back yards. Their adjoining fences and walls have become retaining barriers for the $3-million, eight-acre project, they told county officials and developer Fred Shubin in a meeting last week.

Project manager Paul del Valle said he and Shubin would submit a new plan, with a lower lawn.
