Fraternity Suspended for Having Stripper at Party

A Cal State Long Beach fraternity has been suspended for two years for hosting an on-campus rush party that featured a stripper. “They violated university policy,” Elena Macias, associate vice president for student services, said of Sigma Phi Epsilon, which hosted the Sept. 19 party in the university’s Student Union.

During the gathering, attended by an estimated 250 people, the paid stripper wore a bikini and allowed several men to lick whipped cream off her body. Some witnesses, Macias said, reported that she also removed her bikini top.

Macias said that about six men believed to have helped organize or who participated in the event would be dropped from fraternity membership. In addition, she said, the 67 remaining members would be barred from holding social events; be required to attend regular seminars on eliminating the exploitation of women, and be expected to raise at least $1,000 a year for programs designed to prevent sexual abuse.
