For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

Invest in spring and your garden by planting bulbs, shrubs, trees and perennials.

Set out bait to protect new plantings from snail and slug damage.

It’s time to plant fall color in the flower beds. Iceland poppies, pansies, violas, calendulas, primroses, snapdragons and stock are just a few to consider.

Divide perennials this month for a great show of color next year.

Feed azaleas and rhododendrons with 0-10-10 fertilizer.
