Nation IN BRIEF : ALABAMA : Hunt Apologizes for Use of State Planes
Alabama Gov. Guy Hunt apologized for taking state aircraft on preaching trips on which he accepted money. “I made a mistake when I failed to realize how a simple worship service in the practice of my personal religious faith could turn into such a controversy,” Hunt said as he read from a statement in his office in Montgomery, Ala. “And for that error in judgment, I am sorry.” The Alabama Ethics Commission ruled Sept. 20 that Hunt, a Primitive Baptist minister, may have violated the law when he accepted $9,724 on 18 state-funded preaching trips.
