Associated Press

NFL players scored another victory in their quest for unrestricted free agency when a federal judge in Minneapolis ruled that most players covered by Plan B free agency from Feb. 1, 1989, to Nov. 6, 1989, can pursue antitrust damages against the league and its clubs. NFL players already could sue for damages for the 1990 and 1991 seasons. Green Bay’s Don Majkowski filed a claim last year and Marcus Allen of the Raiders and Gil Byrd of San Diego filed claims this year.

Tim Harris was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the San Francisco 49ers for draft choices. The Packers got the 49ers’ second pick in 1992 and either a second or third-round pick in 1993. . . . The 49ers’ Joe Montana, sidelined for five weeks because of a torn right elbow tendon, passed his first major test toward a comeback, throwing 40 passes of about 15 yards in practice. But there was no word on when he will be able to play again. . . . The Seattle Seahawks have lost second-year defensive tackle Eric Hayes for the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in his right knee.
