South El Monte : Club’s License Renewed
The City Council voted unanimously last week to renew the license of Joe & Aldo’s Club, a bar and restaurant that was closed in August for not complying with the conditions of its permit.
Renewal of the license was withheld last December after the Sheriff’s Department reported that numerous crimes were committed in the club’s parking lot. Hearings were held between March and August while the club remained open on a probationary permit.
The permit was revoked Aug. 9 and the club, at 1935 N. Durfee Ave., was closed until Sept. 12, when the council agreed to reconsider the revocation. After receiving assurances from the club’s attorneys that conditions would be met, the council agreed last Thursday to issue the license.
The conditions include employing two city-licensed security guards and notifying the city of any illegal activity.
The attorneys have repeatedly contended that the owner did not understand the legal aspects of the case or the council’s conditions.
