Larger Postal Facility Will Open
A large postal facility will open in El Segundo next May to relieve the cramped operations in Manhattan Beach and El Segundo, postal officials said.
The 44,000-square-foot facility, which will not be open to customers, will be used for delivery and carrier operations and will not replace customer services offered at the post offices on Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach and Main Street in El Segundo, officials said.
Sixty postal vehicles that park at the small post offices will be moved to the Mariposa Avenue building, opening additional parking for customers at the branches. Local postal officials had hoped to relocate the two branches to larger quarters but officials in Washington considered area real estate too costly.
The new building, along with renovations at the branches, will cost $13 million.
