Hikers, equestrians and mountain bicyclists will converge on China Flat in eastern Ventura County on Sunday when the scenic private tract is open to the public, sponsors of the outing announced.

Peter Heumann, a spokesman for the Concerned Offroad Bicyclists Assn., one sponsoring group, said hikers, equestrians and cyclists will start Sunday morning at different locations for the trek to China Flat, which is part of entertainer Bob Hope’s Jordan Ranch property.

He said participants should bring a picnic lunch and water and call (818) 773-3603 for directions to starting points.

Hope and a development firm have offered to deed China Flat and other parts of Jordan Ranch to park agencies in exchange for 59 acres of federal parkland that would carry an access road to a major development. The proposal has deeply divided environmental and homeowner groups.

Heumann said there is no political purpose for Sunday’s outing.
