Maddux Takes Scoreless Problem Into His Own Hands in Victory
For six innings Wednesday night at Philadelphia, Jose DeJesus had the edge over Chicago’s Greg Maddux.
Although he walked the leadoff batter in three of the first four innings, DeJesus had a no-hitter and Maddux had a one-hitter.
The last laugh was Maddux’s. After Luis Salazar looped a single to left field to spoil the no-hitter to open the seventh inning, Maddux singled in a run and the Cubs won, 1-0.
Each pitcher gave up three hits.
