John McEnroe has played his way into contention for a place on the U.S. Davis Cup team that will defend the title against France in the 1991 final next month, captain Tom Gorman said. McEnroe, ranked 28th, reached the final last week in Basel, Switzerland, where he lost to Jakob Hlasek.
The 1992 Davis Cup draw was held in London, and the United States will play at home against Argentina in the first round.
