On Sunday the Ojai Film Society will present “The Nasty Girl,” a 1990 German film that earlier this year was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film. The movie is based on the true story of a woman who digs into the history of her small Bavarian town and discovers a connection with the Nazis. She faces strong resistance, even threats, from the townspeople as she proceeds with her search.

Show time is 4:30 p.m. at the Ojai Playhouse. The theater is located at 145 E. Ojai Ave.

Tickets have gone on sale for the 1991-1992 Adventure Travel Film Series at the Oxnard Civic Auditorium. The season gets under way Oct. 13 with the film “Lindbergh’s Historic Flight.” The remainder of the schedule includes “Portraits of the Far East,” “Bali: Life in the Balance,” “Wild Canada--Coast to Coast,” “The Real World of Hawaii and Tahiti,” “Grand Tour of Europe, 1892,” “Ten Speeds Through Eastern Europe,” “Discover Bolivia,” “Panama--And You Thought It Was Only a Canal,” and “Europe’s Small Wonders.” Individual tickets are $6.50. Series tickets are $35 (for all 10 films), $30 (eight films), or $25 (six films). For more information, call 486-2424.

Well, time for another chapter in the saga of Ventura’s Mayfair Theatre.

Walnut Properties, the business that owns the theater, has handed management duties over to Starplex Management of Los Angeles, which plans to re-open the theater tomorrow. The building has been vacant since the end of 1990 after a failed attempt to turn it into a revival house.

A Starplex spokeswoman said the theater will show general release movies. The first double-bill will feature “Regarding Henry” and “Soapdish.”
