An assistant city attorney from Riverside has been selected by the City Council to become the city attorney of Culver City.
Norman Herring, a former Nevada state public defender and Army captain, will replace interim City Atty. Joseph Pannone on Nov. 4.
Herring, 45, will oversee the city’s Risk Management division and direct the city attorney’s office with its two deputies and two legal secretaries. His annual salary will be $101,892.
After a recruiter’s statewide search drew a pool of applicants, the City Council selected five finalists and interviewed them last month.
“The City Council was impressed with (Herring’s) professional credentials and the evidence of his personal commitments to his respective organizations and communities,” said Chief Administrative Officer Dale Jones, who helped with the selection process.
The last city attorney, Eleanor Egan, was fired after a year of service because the City Council was dissatisfied with her work, Councilwoman Jozelle Smith said.
