VENTURA : Accident Cuts Off Water to 10 Homes
- Share via
About 10 Ventura residences and a plant nursery were expected to be without water for at least seven hours Thursday after Southern California Edison Co. accidentally drilled a hole in a 20-inch water main on Wells Road near Darling Road, utility officials said.
Edison workers were moving a pole when they hit an Alta Mutual Water Co. line three feet underground at 10:45 a.m., Edison area manager Mike Montoya said.
Montoya said Santa Paula Water Works Ltd., which is responsible for the Alta Mutual line, did not turn off the water for about 30 minutes.
Santa Paula Water Works foreman Ruben Gomez estimated that at least 3,000 gallons of water spilled into a field before workers shut off the pressure. He could not attach a dollar value to the water loss.
A repair worker estimated that work on the line would be finished by about 6 p.m.
