Diamond Bar : Park Bond Issue Studied

Share

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to seek the inclusion of two parks in a county bond measure that will appear on next June’s ballot.

A countywide committee will review the city’s application to decide whether to list the two park projects, expected to cost a total of about $20 million, on the $800-million Los Angeles County Park, Beaches and Recreation Act.

The city hopes to develop a 23-acre park on its own land at Pantera and Bowcreek drives, at a cost of $5 million to $7 million.

A proposed 28.4-acre park at the southeast corner of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Brea Canyon Road is on land owned by the Walnut Unified School District.

The cost to buy and develop the land is estimated at $10 million to $12 million.

If the measure is adopted, the city would also receive a $732,000 share for general park improvements.
