Alhambra Tax Plan Lacks Voter Support

Share

A gadfly is born! Alhambra Measure A disturbs me since, first, the City Council intends to raise property taxes for a specific purpose without a two-thirds vote of the people.

Measure A was only an advisory proposition, which is said to have passed with 59.1%, less than two-thirds, of the votes.

And Sonia McIntosh’s voter pamphlet argument against Measure A was censored by a Superior Court judge (Times, July 25) when the pamphlet clearly states: “Arguments . . . are the opinions of the authors and have not been checked for accuracy by any official agency.” What was censored?

For these reasons, the City Council should declare the ($50,000?) election null and start over. They should not act (or appear to act) above or below the law. The spirit of Proposition 13 still lives!
