Corruption Costs Vietnam $2.1 Billion Since June, 1990

Massive corruption involving senior government officials has cost Vietnam more than $2.1 billion since June of last year, an official newspaper reported.
“The amount of state assets leaked through corruption was 110 pounds of gold, 33,895 tons of paddy rice and $1.95 billion,” said a recent edition of the Lao Dong, or Labor, newspaper.
Vietnam launched an anti-corruption campaign in June, 1990, to try to improve the economy and to bolster the image of the ruling Communist Party.
