Becky McCafferty of Irvine has been named the winner of the Woody Dietch Courage Award for her work as spokesman for the disabled. McCafferty was competing for a berth on the Olympic swimming team when a body-surfing accident permanently confined her to a wheelchair in 1981. She was named Ms. Wheelchair California in 1989 while doing graduate work in kinesiology at USC.

Bob Clark, a graduate of Orange High, will receive the Ralph Clark Distinguished Citizen Award. Clark won the NCAA golf championship while competing for Los Angeles State in 1969. He was a two-time All-American before leaving the sport to found Chase Mortgage Co. in 1984. The company is the largest such business in the county with annual sales of $25 million and loans of $50 million.
