Variety’s New Critic: Van Gordon Sauter, the former president of CBS News who was ousted when Laurence Tisch took over the network in 1986, is set to become a TV reviewer and critic for the show-business trade paper Daily Variety in Los Angeles and its sister publication Variety in New York. Sauter, who is married to California State Treasurer Kathleen Brown, has kept a relatively low profile since his controversial reign at CBS News.
