ROUNDUP : Suave Dancer Is Winner of l’Arc in Paris

Suave Dancer, ridden by Paris-based American Cash Asmussen, surged in the stretch to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamps Sunday.

Magic Night was second and Pistolet Bleu third in the $1.5-million turf race.

Asmussen rode Suave Dancer to a two-length victory in 2:31 2/5 for 1 1/2 miles. Magic Night finished one length ahead of Pistolet Bleu.

Generous, the favorite, faded in the stretch as Suave Dancer swept past early pacesetter Art Bleu.

For most of the race, Suave Dancer was near the back of the pack. But as the field went down the final straightaway, Suave Dancer made his move and surged to the lead and held it.

Summer Squall cruised to a three-length victory over Unbridled in the $107,400 Fayette Handicap at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

Ridden by Pat Day, Summer Squall covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 4/5 over a fast track.

Solar Splendor held off Dear Doctor by a neck to win the Turf Classic at Belmont Park.

In the co-feature, Sharp Dance ended Versailles Treaty’s winning streak at three Grade I stakes by giving trainer Wayne Lukas his fourth Beldame victory.
