Lloyd’s Members Sue Underwriter: Reeling from losses, nearly 1,000 members of the Lloyd’s insurance market filed the first suit against an insurance syndicate, charging a leading marine underwriter with “single-handed negligence.” The members, known as Names, are suing for millions of dollars in losses. Anthony Boswood, counsel for 987 members who backed the syndicate, told Britain’s High Court that marine underwriter Richard Outhwaite had lost millions of pounds since 1982. Outhwaite, owner of RHM Outhwaite Agencies Ltd., denies charges of negligence and breach of contract. He said he acted in the best interests of his members based on information that was available at the time.
