Argentine Ant (Iridomyrmex Humilis):

Repellents

Argentine ants commonly travel in distinct trails. Alter their course by sprinkling the route with household soaps and cleansers, including Ajax or Comet.

Eliminate food the ants may find. Rinse out cans before placing them in recycling bins, wipe crumbs off kitchen counters with damp cloth, then use a dry cloth to absorb any water left on the counter. Sprinkle Ajax or Comet around outside trash cans and mulch piles. Do not leave pet food near a door or outside for long periods of time. Store food in airtight containers.

For Serious Infestations

Spray trails with an insecticide designated for indoor use; common brand names are Raid and Combat.

Locate colony in the yard and eradicate the nest with an insecticide intended for outdoor use; among the most effective repellents are diazinon crystals and malathion.

Colony will reappear in another spot, so repeat the treatment as often as needed until the ants are driven from the area.

Sprinkle diazinon crystals around door and window frames.

If doing it yourself fails, hire a pest control company to eradicate the ants from the yard and house.
