PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Montana Still Unsure About Surgery
Joe Montana will wait until the end of the week before deciding whether to undergo season-ending--and possibly career-ending--surgery on his ailing right elbow. The 35-year-old San Francisco 49er quarterback experienced a flare-up of elbow pain Saturday during a brief workout and will undergo further evaluation during the week before deciding if the only possible remedy is surgery.
Montana will not throw this week, 49er Coach George Seifert said, and he will not be activated for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Montana was on injured reserve the first four weeks of the season and is eligible to be activated.
The Miami Dolphins, already thin at several positions because of injuries, learned that inside linebacker John Offerdahl will miss the rest of the season with ligament damage to his left knee. Offerdahl was hurt during Sunday’s 20-10 victory at New England.
