OXNARD : Search Continues for Woman’s Killer
An Oxnard resident spotted the trailer home owned by slaying victim Evelyn Hendrix near the Oxnard Airport, but a 24-hour watch by authorities did not turn up the man suspected of killing her, authorities said Tuesday.
Oxnard and Ventura police, working with Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies, are continuing to search for the middle-aged man suspected of slaying Hendrix, 68, in Carpinteria and stealing her mobile home. Hendrix was a resident of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, in Canada.
The trailer, a cream-colored 1989 Ford Travelaire with brown stripes and British Columbia plates, fits the description of a vehicle that a middle-aged attacker used when Harold Johnson, 62, was grazed with a bullet Saturday in Ventura.
Sheriff’s deputies said they started 24-hour surveillance of the trailer home Monday, hoping the man would return to the vehicle. After he did not appear, authorities said they decided to take the vehicle to Santa Barbara where criminal experts will comb it, looking for evidence to identify the slaying suspect.
