Council Agrees to Raise Salary of Zoo Director

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously agreed Friday to raise the salary of the zoo director in hopes of attracting top candidates for the post that has been vacant since January.

The council’s action came one year after former director Warren Thomas announced his resignation and after at least one top candidate turned down the job because of the low salary.

The council raised the salary limit from $94,357 to $116,448. In August, Atlanta Zoo Director Terry Maple turned down the job, citing the high cost of housing.
