Man Arrested in Theft of Cable TV Equipment
A Canoga Park man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft after police found an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in cable television equipment inside in his condominium, Los Angeles detectives said Friday.
Gerardo Antonio Zelaya, 22, allegedly stole the equipment over a period of six months while he working in the Van Nuys warehouse of Century Southwest Cable TV, Detective John Edwards said. Zelaya was released on $5,000 bail Friday morning after his arrest Thursday at his home in the 7100 block of Shoup Avenue.
The equipment included channel selectors, converters, computers, pole climbing gear, tools and a microwave oven allegedly taken from the warehouse lunchroom. Edwards said it was the alleged theft of the microwave, purchased the day before, that made company officials suspicious.
Edwards said Zelaya was under surveillance by police for two weeks.
